The 70th independence Day celebration of Western Australia organised by the Honorary Consulate of Sri Lanka in WA was held on the 4th of February 2018 at the St. Hilda’s Performance Arts Centre in Mosmon Park. This event was held in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of gaining independence from colonialization as well as 70 years of strong diplomatic relations between Australia and Sri Lanka.
With Her Excellency the Governor Kerry Sanderson as the Guest of Honour and the presence of many dignitaries and distinguished of WA, the event unfolded with numerous artistic depictions of the Sri Lankan history, culture, and present development. It showcased a cultural ballet of the history of Sri Lanka with the participation of the Sri Lanka youth living in WA. For this occasion, a group of professional choreographers from Sri Lanka led by Saranga & Sharmila Abhayasinghe were invited to train the Perth youngsters.
